Here are just some of the events and programs happening at The Towne:

  • Monday at the Arts -  fun weekly events held each Monday afternoon and evening, including live music, educational talks, and arthouse feature film screenings.

  • Indigenous Showcase - held the 1st Tuesday each month, this night includes indigenous led programming and arts including live music, food, arts & crafts market, talks by elders, short films, and feature film screenings.

  • Rainbow Lounge Youth Nights - Held the 2nd Tuesday each month, this night includes LGBTQ2S+ programming including talks, live performances, and queer oriented film screenings.

  • Book Club Movie Nights - Held the last Tuesday each month, these events have been partnered with the regional library to present literary works and films based on them as source material. Each event will include an educational talk before the screening of a feature film.

  • Japanese Cultural/Anime Nights - Held the last Thursday each month, this youth focused programming includes Japanese food offerings, Japanese cultural elements, as well as a screening of a new of classic Anime feature film.

  • Reconciliation Week Special Programming - Each September, the Society partners with the local school district to present a series of educational programming to support the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

  • Family Friendly Weekend Matinees - each Saturday and Sunday, partnered with Tolko Industries, The Towne Theatre presents affordable new or retro all ages film offerings at a price to make them more accessible by reducing financial barriers to families experiencing cinema and the arts.

  • Youth Oriented Live Performance Series - once every two months, the society will be offering live all-ages musical performances to appeal to local youth (30 and under), who have historically been significantly under-represented in the live arts and culture scene of the region.

Sally Evans - Monday at the arts Introductions

Kelowna born, Sally has been playing her guitar and singing her heart out for audiences since the early days of the coffee houses in Kelowna! Since then, her experience has expanded to include rock and country bands and musical theatre.  Sally’s other passion is working in recreation with seniors in care and has loved her job for over 35 years! Getting involved with OSA has opened up the exciting world of film for her and she says there is no better place to be than the Towne Theatre on a Monday night!

SCOTT JOHN - Theatre Operations Manager

Scott John is a film and animation producer based in Vernon.  He is internationally certified as a Project Management Professional in addition to being a highly trained and experienced process management expert, having attained the highly coveted designation as a Six Sigma Black Belt.  Scott was also awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration for his service in the Military Police both domestically and overseas.

Award-winning past projects have included the animated short films, A David Lynch Family Christmas; The Gnome Who Knew Too Much; and A Fist Full of Beans. Scott also produced the theatrically released and nationally broadcast feature film The Beast of Bottomless Lake, filmed in the Okanagan region of British Columbia.

In addition to his behind the scenes business roles, he also works in creative capacities including motion capture artist and voiceover work.  He received the Kim Selody award for Outstanding Performance in Mime.
